Re: Chicago IR seminar
Well, the die is cast. I sent my money, my Askinas-signed app and my kukkiwon to the WTF. I guess I'm going to Chicago. It's never going to happen any closer to my home town so I guess I really don't have any choice if I ever want to be an IR. Anyone care to share any stories, hints or anecdotes regarding this thing?
What about the rest of you guys, how are your plans going?

Re: Chicago IR seminar

Just a quick note on the logistics of the IR seminar (I have been having a devil of a time decifering them).  They are found on the "notes" section of the WTF web site, a tiny little box at the top of the site.  You need to have your application, kkw certificate and a "receipt" for the wire transfer to them by Tuesday.  I used (hopefully correctly) the actual WTF address off its web site (it's not in the instructions) for the wire transfer.  Presumably USA-T has already sent the application and the kkw certificate in.  Once I get the receipt back from the wire transfer, I'll send the whole package back to the WTF on Monday.   I've made a hotel reservation at the hotel on my own.

I offer this stuff for two reasons: 1) maybe it can help someone similarly confused; and 2) maybe I have made an egregious error and someone can help me.

If anyone wants to call me, my business phone is 303.383.6650.

Bob McKenna

Re: Chicago IR seminar
Jeannette my plans are to hopefully wrap up work at a decent time and be able to get there by late afternoon. Its about a 5 hour drive for me, so you are right it can't happen any closer. I did email everything to the WTF so they have my money, the signed paperwork and kukkiwon. Mike Soper and I are rooming so from a cost standpoint, this isn't to bad (just gas prices are tough). But considering I could've added airfare costs oversea's etc I am not complaining at all. See you there.

Re: Chicago IR seminar
Jeannette,

In answer to your post in the news area, I did make it back. Driving sure beat flying based on whats happened lately. For me, I know it was a seminar like no other. In fact I have 17 pages of notes to go over and type up to give a couple other Iowa referees.
Oh, and some after hours observations...
1) Yes, I agree Mike Soper does have a twin from Serbia.
2) I think that the hotel served cheese wiz omelets.
3) Charles January really does know good resaurants (nice Italian food Thursday night).
4) I really can fit 7 adults in my Buick LeSabre.
Seriously, this was a terrific seminar that I found invaluable. Also, thanks to Master Holloway for getting us prepared and working with us during the seminar. Now you are right Jeannette, we wait by the mailbox for results.

Regards,

Mike

Re: Chicago IR seminar

It is true, I have a twin from Serbia and his name is Predrag Milolijub Tesovic.

All in all, this seminar was a tremendous opportunity for the United States to show why we have the best officials in the world. I don't think anyone can say that those of us who were recommended deserevd to be there and left a lasting impression on referees from other countries, including the IRs who attended the refresher.

I would also like to add that our success would not have been possible without the aid and mentoring of the currently active IRs in our country, most especially the aid of our current Referee Director Master John Holloway.

Now we just need to wait and see if we all get to wear the new blue suits. Has anyone be so bold as to go ahead and order one? Rumor has it if you want it to fit properly, you need to give different lengths for each arm and leg.

Re: Chicago IR seminar
I'm too much of a cheapskate to have ordered my suit. Or maybe I lack confidence. Whatever, I'm waiting until I see one on someone before I buy one myself.

Re: Chicago IR seminar
I will wait for results prior to investing in a suit.  On the other hand, I find Mike Soper's suggestion that his arms and legs are of the same length to be fascinating.  Must have something to do with Alaska.  I join with the others in thanking John H for his assistance.  Now if I can just get USA-T to let me vote. .. .
