It was obvious from the beginning of the reorganization that States would have to come back. It looks like this is the time. I am concerned that the new bylaws include a method of avoiding the abuses that occurred in Michigan. I'm not sure how it would be done, as these abuses were against the bylaws of the USTU, but there was no enforcement built in. The average member was powerless. In Michigan the cadre in power would simply not send notification of the voting date and location to many of the state members. I have no idea if this was a result of incompetency or dishonesty, but it was virtually impossible for an unaffiliated member to exercise enfranchisement. Perhaps the voting could be administered from COS. With the referee director election, there has been significant issues with the voting, but I'm sure those issues could be corrected. I would suggest that there should be no 'pre-vetting' of candidates. Anyone should be allowed to run for the office. I've passed my thoughts, such as they are, along to Mark Biviano and Ronda Sweet.
