I saw an article where a player is requesting a rematch, because there was a perception of missed points. We all know that this is not a protestable situation. But the integrity and ability of the referees is questioned, even by raising such an issue. Which tends to chap my hide a tad.
I also saw in the same article this:
Dave Askinas, CEO of USA Taekwondo, said Duhart's criticism of the federation is unwarranted.''(Judging) is subjective at times, and calls can be looked at in various ways," he said. ''I'm disappointed for Nia. We would have loved to have sent both athletes (to the Olympics). But if he is impugning the honesty and integrity of referees, he is going down the wrong path. Those days are long gone."
I was pleased to see the CEO taking a stand behind "the honesty and integrity of referees." That's nice to see.
My question...would it be appropriate for TRUE, since we are essentially a support organization for referees, to also make the statement that we support the honesty and integrity of our referees, and are saddened (or whatever word you want to use) that a player of this caliber, or their family, would even think to bring those qualities into question? What do y'all think? and Why or Why not? Are we encouraging this behavior by not saying something? Or would we be simply opening things up for debate if we did say something? What are your thoughts? I've been ponderin' this a bit since I saw the article this morning...and I'm certain I don't have an answer to my own question.
