Proposed Off Site Referee Camp
We need some input from you.

TRUE has found a way to have a Referee camp in Michigan. We’ve located a hotel and a venue for the training that would be available within the budget.

The referee Co-chairs have indicated that they would be happy to hold the camp anywhere, provided that enough people would be interested in attending somewhere other than Colorado Springs. We are asking for you to let them know if in fact there are enough folks on the eastern side of the country who would be willing to pay $150, give up a weekend and travel to Michigan to attend the referee camp sometime in June.

Respond soon, as time is getting short.

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp
Jenny,

Michigan isn't that far from Iowa, I would have interest. Of course as always, depends on the time it occurs. I have had to miss the last two camps for personal reasons (25th wedding anniversary, and Mom's 85th birthday).

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp
If you're looking at June in Michigan, I think the obvious progression would be to have it in conjunction with Nationals and save folks the duplicative flights.

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp
That would make the entire Camp/tournament adventure 10 days plus travel time long. You don't think that would be a lot of time off in a row?

Karin and I will be in Michigan the weekend before Nationals and would not be able to attend another weekend in June. We vote for June 28-29.

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp
Is it reasonable to propose that USAT waive the $150 fee, and in exchange, have these camp attendants make a commitment to officiate a certain number of events within some period of time?

Yours,

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp

That certainly seems to be a reasonable suggestion to me. The Co-chairs are watching this discussion. Maybe they'll be able to suggest this to the Powers That Be.

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp

I am planning to attend the camp in June and would prefer Michigan, since it is a shorter and cheaper flight for me.

We should expedite the decision and confirmation of date/location since airfares keep going up.

Thanks!

Re: Proposed Off Site Referee Camp

It might be more convenient to hold the referee camp in conjunction with Sr. Nationals and Junior Olympics.  I'm up for whatever you want to do, will do my best to participate.  The problem I see with combining the Referee Camp with Sr.s/JO's is the cost of the hotel room and food.  An extra night's stay at the Qualifiers has been costing $80 to $130 a night.  Also, timing, do you put it in front of Senior Nationals and appoint all attendees to both Senior Nationals and Junior Olympics (they'll get lots of input and good practice but what if we have some green D's in the seminar)?  Anyone that is supporting Junior Olympics and is not appointed to Senior Nationals would have to eat two more nights of hotel bills.  We need to get people committed and signed up for the referee seminar or camp and the tournament so they can buy their plane tickets.  Athlete applications have been up on the USAT site for Detroit, but not referee applications.  We need to STRONGLY encourage participation and commitment by our referees to our national tournament.  We need to have each other's backs and all pull together.  Every participant is vital.  Every person who shows up to help means more rings and fewer late nights.
