Re: Qualifiers?
Yazoo, looks like I got appointed too. Now all I've got to do is get the time off of work, and the money to go, and to pay for the referee seminar. I e-mailed Monica Paul to see if they are going to continue the policy they set last year, of waiving the seminar fees for working referees, but haven't heard back yet.

Anyone else heard about this?

Re: Qualifiers?
Happy days, I got the time off and I've confirmed my attendence at the Rochester Qualifier. Hope to see everyone there.

Still haven't heard anything from Monica. Sure would be nice not to have to kick out that $45. That's a tank of gas.

I have heard (not official of course) that they have not been inundated with refeees for the Qualifiers. Speaking only for myself, I sure hope people aren't holding off on applying to be a referee because they have some issue or other with the USAT policies, management etc. I hope everyone is keeping in mind why we referee. What matters to me is the fight and the competitors in it. The good and bad stuff that happens before the fight (what are those appointment criteria and who is making that decision?) and after the fight (see you in the hotel bar at 9) are just fluff.

So folks, don't wait. Send in your applications. Make sure that the competitors have the best refs available, and as many as are needed so their experience is a good one.

Hope to see you all in Rochester.

Jeannette,

Yes, I whole heartedly agree. Many people may have issues with the USAT at this time of reorganization in the referee program. The strongest statement TRUE can make is to show up in full force at the qualifiers, do the best job possible, give the competitors fair matches, and send a message to the USAT that we are here to work WITH them, and not against them.

Remember, its all about the competitors. See you in Rochester, also!

Re: Qualifiers?
OK, I know you people have all signed up for all of the qualifiers you can. Now TRUE is calling on you for more.

We need correspondants to write reviews of the tournaments. They can be lilght hearted or serious, as suits your writing style, but we want to keep our readers informed about the tournaments from the referee's point of view.

If you are uncomfortable posting, you can send me your thoughts and comments and I'll write them up for you, either with credit or without, your choice.
