5th INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS (WTF-sanctioned event)
Date: October 7, 2006
Place: Oregon Convention Center, Portland, OR.
Dear USAT National Referees (Class A & B):
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, a special invitation is extended to you to be considered as an official referee at this tournament, which is WTF-sanctioned this year. There are a limited number of appointments remaining. The first tournament was held in 2000 in Nepal. The second was also in Nepal in 2002. In 2004, the third tournament was in Portland, which I attended. Last year, the tournament was in Hong Kong. Now, the fifth will be in Portland again.
The success of this competition depends upon our support as referees. Your skill and expertise will insure a quality event.
All referees will be provided with hotel accommodations for two nights (October 6 & 7-double occupancy); transportation to and from the airport; breakfast, lunch and dinner for October 7; per diem; and t-shirt.
PLEASE NOTE: To referee/judge black belts (ages 14-17, and 18+)-only official WTF-certified International referees, those that have received their WTF certification number. The new IR suit (blue) for certified IRs will be allowed subject to approval of the event WTF Technical Delegate. If not approved, those IR referees will only officiate the color belt competition and possibly the black belts (ages 13 and under; subject to WTF approval by the Technical Delegate). USAT National Referees (Class A & B) (who are not certified IRs) will officiate the color belt competition and possibly the black belts (ages 13 and under; subject to WTF approval by the Technical Delegate). USAT National Referees will wear the USAT uniform (black suit, white shirt, red tie and white shoes). Any newly certified IR with a WTF IR Certification number, unable to order and receive the new IR (blue) suit in time, would wear the USAT uniform. (The new blue suit is not required for this tournament because most IRs could not order and receive them in time. IRs are requested to wear the yellow suit for this event.) The WTF Technical Delegate would determine which matches that IRs wearing blue or black suits would officiate. The WTF Technical Delegate will have final authority over all of these matters.
For additional information and Referee Application Form, see tournament website:

Your contribution to Taekwondo and serving as a Referee have always been invaluable and greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please do hesitate to call.
Thank you very much for your consideration and support. We hope to see you in Portland.
Very truly yours,
Richard A. Sacks
Tournament Referee Vice Chairman
