Anyone going to Referee Development & Certification Training Camp?
Is anyone thinking of going to the Referee Development & Certification Training Camp at the US Olympic Training Center on March 23-25? Mr. Herb Perez lives right here in the Bay Area, and so I'll definitely hear something more about this camp from him in the next week or so. It looks like, from what has been recently published on its Web site ("Clarification..."), that USAT has received a bunch of complaints from existing referees in terms of the fee and the short notice.

As I noted on the front page, I wish I could go. Money and time do not allow. I hope to be able to attend a later one, perhaps in the fall.

You will want to note that, even though he holds a contract for 'referee development', this is not Mr. Perez' show. This camp was developed by the referee co-chairs, Masters Holloway and Preston, using recommendations from the Ad Hoc Referee Committee of 2005 with input from the WTF referee Chair Kim. This camp was developed by top referees, for top referees.

Refere Camp

OK, can’t let such an important event pass without comments on OUR website.  The FIRST Referee Development Camp (those 20 of us who attended are proud to be at the FIRST!) was an outstanding work-in-progress.

The gracious, enlightening, and often witty teaching by WTF Referee Chair Master Hong Ki KIM, along with the ‘camp’ atmosphere at the OTC, contributed to a learning environment that far surpasses any 6-hour seminar you’ll ever attend.  I don’t know the exact breakdown, but we had everyone from Cs to IRs.  Can’t imagine anyone, at any level of experience, not learning and improving their skills.

Thank you to Masters Holloway and Preston. Yes, we covered the rules. But in context and with the analytical decision-making discussions that we need.  I’m betting there will be a waiting list for the next camp!
