7th INTERNATIONAL OPEN FRIENDSHIP TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS
From correspondant Richard Sacks:
7th INTERNATIONAL OPEN FRIENDSHIP TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS
(WTF-Sanctioned)
Saturday, October 25, 2008
Oregon Convention Center
777 NE MLK, Jr. Blvd.
Portland, Oregon 97232 USA
Dear International Referees:
On behalf of the IOFTC Organizing Committee, a special invitation is extended to you to submit your application to officiate at this tournament, which is a WTF-sanctioned event this year. The first and second tournaments were held in Nepal in 2000 and 2002. In 2004, the third tournament was in Portland. In 2005, the tournament was in Hong Kong. The fifth was in Portland in 2006. Last year, the tournament was held in India. This year will be in Portland again.
The success of this competition depends upon our support as referees. Your skill and expertise will continue to insure a quality event, as evidenced in past years.
Referees will be provided with hotel accommodations for two nights (October 24 & 25-double occupancy to be shared with an appointed referee); transportation to and from the airport; breakfast, lunch and dinner for Saturday, October 25; $100 per diem; and special gift.
A special Friday Night Dinner on October 24 (6-7 p.m.) will be provided by the students and parents of Master Diwakar. The Nepalese home cooking is wonderful. A referee meeting (7-8 p.m.) will follow dinner.
All USA IRs are required to have current USAT membership for this event.
Referee attire: IR blue sparring suit.
For additional information, see tournament website: www.ioftc.org
If you want to be considered for selection to referee, please submit Referee Application form (when available on the tournament website, approximately July 1, 2008) and, in addition, please confirm by reply to this e-mail now.
Referee appointments will be made by the Organizing Committee and notification sent by e-mail.
Your contribution to Taekwondo and serving as a Referee has always been invaluable and greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you very much for your consideration and support. We hope to see you in Portland.
Very truly yours,
Master Richard Sacks

Re: 7th INTERNATIONAL OPEN FRIENDSHIP TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS
I am gearing up for this event, just 2 weeks away. This will be the furthest and longest I've been away from home since the birth of my baby boy. I know I will miss my family, but I am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones among the best referees in the world. Not to mention officiate some great fights of athletes from all over in the spirit of friendship.
Anybody else headed down early on Friday?
