RingMaster - Judges' Log
Master Ferguson,

Here’s another issue that came up in Rochester at the Qualifier. It’s basically creating a means of correcting human error. Let me first lay out the situation.

There’s a heated match, score is very close, nearing the end of the final round. The referee calls Shigan to issue a warning. The match is then restarted, but the computer operator does NOT resume the match in RingMaster. There is then an exchange before either of the coaches or referee notice the clock has not started.

There may have been points scored in the exchange that could affect the outcome of the match. Sure, the center referee could pole the judges, and put points up on the board, but it could be argued that the judges could be influenced by the referee while polling them.

My suggestion would be that the RingMaster product still record any button presses that occur during a Shigan (or other timeout). This way, if this issue occurs, the TA (and/or referee) can review the log to see what buttons were actually pressed, and whether or not they occurred within the window. This would make the putting up of points much easier to accept by BOTH coaches as well as go a long way in arbitration if it ever got there.

What are your thoughts on this?

Re: RingMaster - Judges' Log
A good Center Referee habit may be to glance at the timekeeper before completing a Kye-sok and making eye contact.

When operating the computer - I have had my eyes down in the computer screen adding a penalty and look up to see the match continuing. Particularly in the heated battle situation.

Eye contact would be much more critical with a computer operator that is not experienced with penalties and hand signals or just not that experienced with TKD !!  Know the experience of your computer operator.
