What to do in Detroit?

Camping, Biking, Hiking, now this is my thing.
Michigan is an amazing place to visit (or live) if you are an appreciator of the outdoors. When the last Glaciers melted off of Michigan 10,000 years ago, they left behind thousands of small lakes and four really big ones.
The Great Lakes are just that, Great. Sugar sand beaches of Lake Michigan on the west side of the state, rocky beaches of northern Lake Superior, fishing and boating on Lake Erie and St. Claire at Detroit’s front door, Michigan has more freshwater coast line than any other state.
Michigan has ten National Parks, from rugged Isle Royal to the rolling dunes of Sleeping Bear (www.thingstodo.com/states/MI/nationalparks/index.htm). There are almost 500 State Parks (http://www.michigandnr.com/ParksandTrails/Listing.aspx) and each County has several parks (http://www.findthefun.com/lists/vxMI83.htm) with camping and biking at most of them, hiking in all of them. Hartwick pines in the center of the state, represents some of the last of the virgin pine forests that once blanketed the northern Midwest, and were cut to build this country. The Irish Hills, just south of my hometown, is an astonishing example of a huge glacial moraine, with its varied and various terrain and ecologies.
Even Michigan’s agricultural country, while it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, can be impressive. Millions of bushels of beans, corn, wheat, and sugar beets make their way from the rich soil of mid-Michigan to your table. You’ll miss the strawberry harvest, which ends just before our event, but you’ll be just in time for the cherry harvest. Michigan is one of the four largest producers of cherries in the US. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to the Cherry Festival in Traverse City in Northern Michigan, running at the same time as our tournament.
Schedule a few extra days and bring your bikes, fishing poles and tents. Michigan is the place to go for outdoors adventure.
